Notifications Authority

The WTO Agreement on TBT requires that technical measures imposed on products, such as standards, technical regulations as well as testing and certification requirements, do not create unjustified or unnecessary obstacles to trade.

For this purpose, the Agreement requires that information should be made available to WTO Members on existing or proposed technical measures by means of publications, notifications and information services or National Enquiry Points (NEPs).

BSN is the official NEP for Indonesia as well as the agency responsible for Notifications under the TBT Agreement.

Technical regulations and product standards may vary from country to country. Having many different regulations and standards makes life difficult for producers and exporters. If regulations are set arbitrarily, they could be used as an excuse for protectionism. The Agreement on Technical Barriers to Trade tries to ensure that regulations, standards, testing and certification procedures do not create unnecessary obstacles.

National Enquiry Point

The purpose of this service is to provide information to WTO Members or interested parties in those Members, on A) Indonesian national standards (NSI), B) Technical regulations and C) Conformity assessment requirements (testing, inspection, certification, accreditation) as applicable to imported products.

Note: These requirements are the same for locally produced products)

A) Indonesian Standards (NSI)

The title and a short summary of the standard are in English. The full text is in Bahasa Indonesia language. English translations could be provided upon request, on a cost basis. SNI List...

B) Indonesian Technical Regulations

These are laws, decrees or other mandatory documents produced by various governmental authorities at the central or local levels.

These Notifications are selected to Alert Indonesian exporters about new or changed product requirements in global markets before they become law and provide interested parties with the opportunity to raise concerns about those measures that may affect their trading activities

The BSN Centre for Information and Documentation of Standardization is ready to provide Indonesian exporters, importers, producers, traders, etc., with useful information regarding standards, technical regulations and conformity assessment requirements as may be applicable to specific products and markets of interest to them.
