Conformity Assesment

Conformity Assessment includes institutional and assessment process in order to decide if an activity or a product is in conformity with certain SNI. Conformity Assessment can be conducted by the first party (producer), the second party (consumer) or the third party (other party outside producer and consumer) as long as this party has the competence in fulfilling the conditions set up by BSN.

 In accordance with PP 102/2000, the responsibility of BSN in the field of conformity assessment is represented by National Accreditation Committee (KAN) which was created by the government to guarantee the implementation of conformity assessment competence through accreditation process. The task of KAN as national accreditation body is to give accreditation to conformity assessment institution (testing laboratory, calibration laboratory and certification body). Conformity Assessment Institution accredited by KAN has the authorization to issue certificates within the scope of accreditation.

 Like the SNI development, the conformity assessment should fulfil the following criteria:

(a) open to all parties interested to become the executive body of conformity assessment;
(b) transparent so that stakeholders will be able to know and to find out about  the conditions and the process applied in the procedures;
(c)  fair and competent so that conformity assessment can be conducted in a trustful and respectful manner.
(d) effective due to its awareness on market demand and to the existing rules and regulations; and
(e) convergent to the development of international conformity assessment
